Nerves of the lower limb

Sciatic nerve

  • Root value: L4,5 S1,2 and 3
  • Leave the pelvis through the greater sciatic foramen below piriformis
  • Accompanied by posterior cutaneous nerve of thigh posteriorly
  • Has two terminal branches
    • Tibial nerve
    • Common peroneal nerve
  • Supplies the whole of lower limb except the medial and anterior compartments of thigh
