Sjogren's syndrome
- Keratoconjunctivitis sicca, xerostomia (dry eyes, dry mouths),
enlarged parotid gland and polyarthritis.
- H S C. Sjogren (1899- ) Swedish ophthalmologist who was born at
Koping on Lake Malaren. He entered medical school in 1918 at the
Karolinska Institute, Stockholm. He described the syndrome in 1933.
Whilst he was the superintendent of the Eye Clinic in Jonkoping in 1935,
he developed the technique for corneal transplantation. In 1957 he moved
to Gothenburg and in 1961 was appointed professor.
